The students association representing OBC’s have been demanding 5% relaxation be allowed at the Bachelor's as well as at the Master's level for the candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC)(Non-creamy Layer) as per the UGC Regulation 2018

The All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) has sent a representation to the University of Hyderabad Vice Chancellor to provide five percent relaxation in the minimum eligibility to OBC applicants on par with SC, ST and PwD in the recruitment process.

The students association representing OBC’s have been demanding 5% relaxation be allowed at the Bachelor's as well as at the Master's level for the candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC)(Non-creamy Layer) as per the UGC Regulation 2018 in the recruitment process of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor posts.

The students are demanding relaxation as per the UGC Regulations on Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and Other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education, 2018, it is mentioned that a relaxation of 5% in eligibility marks shall be allowed at the Bachelor's as well as at the Master's level for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC) (Non-creamy Layer), and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) categories.

The purpose of this relaxation is to encourage more applicants from the marginalized communities and provide opportunity in the recruitment process.

AIOBCSA in its letter has stated that regrettably, the recent recruitment notification failed to include the aforementioned relaxation for OBC (Non-creamy Layer) candidates, which is a vital provision intended to provide equal opportunities to all eligible candidates. “It is of utmost importance that we rectify this omission promptly to ensure fairness and uphold the principles of inclusivity and social justice,” the letter states.

It has urged VC to take immediate action to issue a corrigendum to the recent recruitment notification.

The letter states: “The corrigendum should clearly state that a relaxation of 5% shall be allowed at the Bachelor's as well as at the Master's level for candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) (Non-creamy Layer), similar to the relaxation provided for SC, ST, and PWD candidates, in accordance with the UGC Regulations mentioned above. This will ensure that all OBC candidates receive the fair consideration they deserve during the selection process.”

The association has demanded that the recruitment process is conducted in accordance with the established regulations and principles of equity.
