PM Modi Criticizes Delhi Govt's Fund Mismanagement, Inaugurates ₹600 Crore DU Campuses Ahead of 2025 Elections
In addition to DU’s expansion, the Prime Minister inaugurated the ₹300 crore CBSE Integrated Office Complex in Dwarka, this eco-friendly facility features advanced examination technologies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government of mismanaging funds allocated for education, highlighting the misuse of resources under the "Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan." Speaking at an event in Delhi today, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several key educational and infrastructural projects, including new campuses for Delhi University (DU) and an integrated CBSE office complex in Dwarka. The event comes as Delhi braces for its Assembly elections, likely to be held in February 2025.
“The funds meant for the education of children have not been spent as intended by the state government. Over the past decade, Delhi has seen corruption and scams across sectors—ranging from liquor contracts to healthcare for the poor,” said Modi, adding, “Some hardcore corrupt individuals, using Anna Hazare as a front, have driven Delhi into a crisis.”
Expanding Delhi University’s Reach
During the event, the Prime Minister emphasized the Central government’s commitment to improving higher education. He announced the development of DU’s long-awaited Eastern and Western campuses, located in Surajmal Vihar and Dwarka, respectively, along with a new Veer Savarkar College in Najafgarh. These projects, valued at over ₹600 crore, aim to enhance educational access for hundreds of students annually.
“Our effort is to provide more opportunities for higher education to the youth of Delhi right here. Delhi University’s reputation continues to grow stronger, and these new campuses will further empower the students,” Modi said.
NEP and New CBSE Complex
Praising the National Education Policy (NEP), Modi reiterated its focus on inclusivity, especially for marginalized communities. “The NEP ensures that children from poor families now have a clearer path to becoming doctors, engineers, and professionals,” he stated.
In addition to DU’s expansion, the Prime Minister inaugurated the ₹300 crore CBSE Integrated Office Complex in Dwarka. This eco-friendly facility features advanced examination technologies, an auditorium, a data center, and water management systems.
Election Context
The Prime Minister’s sharp critique of the Delhi government’s governance, coupled with the inauguration of key educational projects, underscores the BJP’s efforts to consolidate its position ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Modi’s remarks on corruption and mismanagement are likely to intensify the political narrative in the lead-up to the polls.
