Rajasthan University Unlikely to Conduct Biannual Admission Due To Staff Crunch, Infrastructure
RU may not adopt biannual admission for the academic session 2024-25 due to limited infrastructure and staff available at the university and its affiliated colleges.
The authorities notified that the Rajasthan University admission seats are filled in the July-August admission cycle and every year, the university increases seats to meet the number of applications and student strength. Consequently, conducting biannual admission in Rajasthan University may not be a feasible option at present, as reported by TOI.
“With guidelines from the University Grants Commission (UGC), the issue regarding giving admissions twice a year will be discussed by the academic council and with the university syndicate also. If approved at these meetings, then it can be implemented. We might consider starting it for a few courses, but it will be decided after due process.” Says RU’s Vice-Chancellor Alpana Kateja.
Additionally, the admission board of Rajasthan University said that all the seats at the University of Rajasthan get filled very quickly and no vacant seats are left in any academic session. The admission board further stated that conducting classes for new students will be very difficult as the timetable is already set for the existing courses.
UGC Allowed Higher Education Institutions to Conduct Admission Twice a Year
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recently granted approvals to HEIs to conduct biannual admission from the academic session 2024-25. With this, the universities/colleges can admit students twice a year in two cycles namely the July/August session and the January/February session. UGC has taken this step to enhance opportunities for students and match the global standard of education.
