Over 1400 conferred degrees at Sixth Annual Convocation of CMR University

Govindan Rangarajan, Director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru has said that there is a growing need for young students and researchers trained in India to develop indigenous solutions that can help address problems specific to our country, like malnutrition, water scarcity, and infectious diseases like TB & malaria.

Prof Rangarajan was speaking at the 6th Annual Convocation of CMR University held today during which 1400 students graduated across all seven schools. Among the 28 Gold medalists, 16 were awarded to girls and 12 to boys.

There were 1400 who received degrees and 26 received doctoral degrees. Twenty-eight students were the rank holders for the year 2021-2022. Year on year girls have performed better and bagged more gold medals than boys across all disciplines.

Thaawarchand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka and the visitor at CMR University, in his speech acknowledged that “India has always been a global knowledge house and now we are moving towards becoming the ‘Vishwaguru’. Indian universities are playing a significant role in achieving this larger vision. As the nation prepares itself to be 'atma nirbhar', the onus will be on the next generation to fulfil the vision."

Further, the Governor stressed on the importance of building environmentally friendly and sustainable nations and addressed the societal problems faced by the country.

Honoris Causa was conferred on Ar. Dinesh Verma, Past President - Designers Guild of India & Practicing Architects Association, Immediate Past Chairperson - Indian Institute of Interior Designers, Bangalore, Principal Architect and Managing Director, ACE Group Architects.

Delivering the convocation address, Prof. Rangarajan said, “While the pandemic brought the world to stand still, it also opened up avenues for research and advancement. It has exposed the immense need for collaboration and robust research faculties. To tackle global challenges, it is vital for people working in diverse areas to come together and pool in their expertise to address the global challenges. The looming threat of future pandemics and the growing devastation have highlighted the need for collaborations rather than working in silos.”
