UGC, BBS Organises Workshop on Writing of Textbooks in Bhartiya Bhasha for Higher Education
The one-day interactive workshop on the writing of textbooks in Bhartiya Bhasha for higher education was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Education, Dr Sukanta Majumdar.
University Grants Commission (UGC) in association with Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti (BBS) organise a one-day workshop for the vice chancellor on the writing of textbooks in Bhartiya Bhasha for higher education in New Delhi on July 16. The event was inaugurated by The Minister of State for Education, Dr Sukanta Majumdar.
Majumdar highlighted the importance of having a curriculum in the Indian language for several higher education programmes. The education system shall offer the vast linguistic opportunity to the students and ensure that students have the chance to learn in their mother tongue.
He further added that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has given the necessary foundation for inspiring the youth of the country to be aware and qualified in order to accomplish nation-building most effectively and efficiently. To enlighten the event, M. Jagdish Kumar, Chairperson of the UGC shared valuable insights with the audience.
Event's Highlight
Three significant projects were introduced during the event as mentioned below:
1. Launch of ASMITA (Augmenting Study Materials in Indian languages through Translation and Academic writing) in order to launch 22,000 books in the upcoming five years in 22 different scheduled languages
2. Bahubhasha Shabdkosh to create multilingual dictionaries
3. Real-time Translation Architecture to enhance translation capabilities
The event was attended by over 150 Vice Chancellors from different parts of India who were further grouped in 12 Manthan Satra to develop textbooks in 12 regional languages including Hindi, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali Tamil, and Telugu to name a few.
