The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited feedback on the draft SOPs for operationalisation of National Credit Framework (NCrF) in Higher Education and Vocational Education, Training & Skilling. UGC officially announced the NCF on April 10, 2023, aimed at facilitating the smooth amalgamation of learning across academic, vocational, and experiential domains. To set the NCrF in motion, the Ministry of Education formed a High-Level Committee (HLC).

This committee, supported by experts in School Education, Vocational Education, Training & Skilling, and Higher Education, has drafted the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) necessary for the effective implementation of the NCrF.

The SOPs are available on the UGC website: gs.gov.in/ugs_noticeaga. In this regard, the UGC has invited suggestions, comments and feedback from the stakeholders. They can submit their suggestions, comments and feedback at the email ID: suggestionsnerfsops@gmail.com. The last date to submit feedback by January 25, 2024.

National Credit Framework

This framework, known as the NCrF, revolutionizes learning by encompassing academic, vocational, skills, and experiential learning. It allows for the assessment, accumulation, storage, transfer, and redemption of credits without distinction between subjects. Furthermore, it establishes academic equivalence between vocational and general education, fostering mobility within and between these domains. The operationalization of the NCrF is facilitated through the implementation of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC).
