UGC Launches Annual Capacity Building Strategy

UGC Launches Annual Capacity Building Strategy

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced a comprehensive Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP) for the training and development of its employees. The objective behind the launch of this initiative is to actively facilitate the growth trajectory and skill augmentation of its workforce. As part of the plan, the UGC employees will be trained in four focus areas: behavioral, functional, domain, and technology competencies.

UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar inaugurated the Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP) of UGC. The launch event was graced by the presence of Dr. R Balasubramanium, Member HR of the Capacity Building Commission. Notably, UGC stands out as the pioneering autonomous organization to proactively collaborate with the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) for strategic employee capacity enhancement initiatives.

Training of UGC Employees

As part of its training to staff capacity building, UGC enrolled over 600 employees onto the iGot Karmayogi platform by September 15, 2023. During the initial quarter (October to December 2023), a remarkable achievement was reached as 630 UGC employees effectively finished over 4,500 courses collectively, with each employee successfully completing an average of seven courses.

Through this initiative, UGC employees will be trained in four areas:

  • Behavioral competencies enable UGC staff to undertake more substantial responsibilities beyond their usual scope
  • Functional competencies enhance UGC staff's effectiveness in administration, procurement, and financial management
  • Augmenting domain competencies enables better performance in specialized areas like policy-making or project management
  • Training in newer technology competencies facilitates quicker turnaround times, boosts efficiency, improves digital record-keeping, and harnesses technology platforms to engage stakeholders

In the previous year, UGC organised diverse offline/face-to-face training sessions covering topics such as Reservation in Services, Introduction to Emerging Technologies using AI, Overview of Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM) utilizing Higher Education data and pertinent use cases, PFMS Awareness of General Financial Rules, Contract Management, Purchase of Services, RTI, and more for its employees.
