Our education must address 21st century aspirations and create solutions for local and global challenges - Dharmendra Pradhan

Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan today released UGC Compendium of Regulations spanning from 1957 to 2023.

In his address, Pradhan stressed that the IDP should focus on facilitating learner-centric and multidisciplinary education, empowering youth, and enhancing the nation's demographic advantage. "Our education system must address 21st-century aspirations and create solutions for both local and global challenges," Pradhan remarked, urging institutions to transform themselves into centers of excellence through holistic approaches.

Pradhan also underscored the need for education to propel India from being a consuming economy to a producing one. He emphasized the importance of innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation, and capacity building for teachers, aiming for Indian institutions to achieve global standards in research and development.

The workshop brought together over 170 representatives from HEIs across India to discuss strategies for institutional growth. Aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the IDP provides a roadmap for institutions to develop a future-ready education system. Participants engaged in thematic sessions covering governance, financial planning, human resources, and research, with experts from academia, industry, and government sharing their insights.

UGC Compendium of Regulations:

The UGC Compendium, released during the event, serves as a comprehensive reference for all stakeholders. It includes 15 Rules, 87 Regulations, and 28 Notifications, covering a wide range of topics from institutional accreditation to budget management. This 1100-page document, available as a PDF and e-book on the UGC website, is expected to streamline operations and support informed decision-making across HEIs.

About the IDP Guidelines:

Launched by the UGC on 6th February 2024, the IDP Guidelines are designed to help institutions create strategic development plans with input from board members, leaders, faculty, and students. These guidelines will enable institutions to develop initiatives, assess progress, and achieve their set goals, fostering an environment of excellence and innovation in India's higher education landscape.
