The UGC emphasized the urgency of filling vacant faculty positions to ensure the smooth functioning and academic excellence of higher education institutions.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a renewed call to all universities, institutions deemed to be universities, and affiliated colleges to expedite the recruitment of faculty members.

In a letter dated July 17, 2024, the UGC emphasized the urgency of filling vacant faculty positions to ensure the smooth functioning and academic excellence of higher education institutions.

This directive follows a series of previous communications from the UGC, dating back to June 4, 2019, with subsequent reminders on July 31, 2019, August 7, 2019, September 5, 2019, October 22, 2019, and November 26, 2019. The UGC has consistently stressed the importance of addressing faculty shortages and improving the recruitment process.

All universities, institutions deemed to be universities, and colleges have been requested to take immediate and serious steps to fill the vacant positions. The status of the recruitment process must be uploaded on the University Activity Monitoring Portal (UAMP) of the UGC at http://www.ugc.ac.in/ugamp/ by July 31, 2024.

The UGC's proactive approach aims to enhance the quality of education and ensure that institutions are adequately staffed to meet the academic needs of students. This initiative is expected to significantly improve the faculty recruitment landscape and contribute to the overall development of the higher education sector in India.
