The UGC underscores the necessity for universities to commence classes within specified time frames and declare results promptly.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sent a letter to all higher education institutions, emphasizing the importance of compliance with academic calendars. The missive underscores the significance of meticulously scheduling academic events to streamline the educational process effectively.

In the communiqué addressed to these institutions, the UGC elucidated that the academic calendar serves as a comprehensive roadmap delineating essential milestones throughout the academic year. From the commencement of classes to examination periods, vacations, and the culmination of semesters, the calendar provides stakeholders, including students, with clear visibility of the academic trajectory.

"Releasing the calendar in advance ensures that academic activities are conducted as per the plan," the letter emphasizes, highlighting how adherence to the calendar promotes the delivery of quality teaching, learning, and research initiatives.

Citing relevant regulations, including the UGC (Minimum Standards of Instruction for the Grant of the First Degree through Formal Education) Regulations, 2003, and the UGC (Minimum Standards of Instruction for the Grant of the Master's Degree through Formal Education) Regulations, 2003, the UGC underscores the necessity for universities to commence classes within specified time frames and declare results promptly.

Furthermore, clauses 4.1 and 4.2 of the UGC (Grant of Degree and Other Awards by Universities) Regulations, 2008, reinforce the mandate for universities to announce their academic calendars at the outset of each academic year, encompassing all scheduled activities and degree award ceremonies.

In light of these regulations, the UGC urges higher education institutions to meticulously plan and announce their academic calendars, adhering rigorously to prescribed timelines for the commencement of academic sessions, examination schedules, and result declarations. This directive aims to ensure the seamless execution of educational programs and uphold standards of academic excellence across the higher education landscape.
