UGC Urges Universities to Host Programmes for India's Techade-Chips Initiative; Submit Report

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is going to lay foundation stone of three semiconductor facilities at TEPL, India's first fab facility in Dholera, Gujarat; TEPL OSAT facility in Morigaon, Assam and CG Power OSAT facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has called upon all universities to organize events surrounding India's Techade-Chips initiative, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the nation on March 13th, 2024. UGC has asked universities to submit reports detailing their event activities, demonstrating their contribution to the vision of a technologically empowered India.

In a letter addressed to vice-chancellors of all universities, the UGC emphasized the significance of the Techade-Chips initiative in fostering sustainable development and job creation. The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for three semiconductor facilities during the event: TEPL in Dholera, Gujarat; TEPL OSAT facility in Morigaon, Assam; and CG Power OSAT facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

Highlighting the importance of student involvement, the UGC has urged universities to ensure the active participation of students, particularly those in STEM and technical disciplines. To facilitate engagement, universities are encouraged to commence their programmes at 9:30 AM on March 13th, 2024, with live streaming of the Prime Minister's address scheduled for 10:30 AM on YouTube.

Furthermore, universities are tasked with disseminating information about the event among students and encouraging their participation. The UGC has provided guidelines for organizing the programmes, including minute-to-minute planning, venue identification, stakeholder engagement, and post-event reporting.

India's Techade initiative symbolizes the nation's commitment to embracing the digital age for sustainable development and global technological leadership. By fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government bodies, the initiative aims to propel India towards becoming a significant player in the global semiconductor industry.
