Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the appointment of Prof. Uma Kanjilal as the Acting Vice Chancellor, succeeding Prof. Nageshwar Rao upon the completion of his term. Prof. Kanjilal, who has been serving as the Pro-Vice Chancellor, brings a wealth of academic and administrative experience to her new role.

Prof. Uma Kanjilal's distinguished career began in 1984 as a Research Assistant at IIT Kanpur. She has held various positions, including Cataloguer and Professional Assistant at IGNCA, before advancing through the academic ranks at IGNOU from Lecturer to Professor, a position she has held since 2003.

Her extensive administrative experience includes roles as Librarian in Charge, Director of the School of Social Sciences, Director of the Advanced Centre for Informatics and Innovative Learning, Director of the Inter-University Consortium for Technology-Enabled Flexible Education and Development, and Director of the Centre for Online Education.

Internationally, Prof. Kanjilal has served as a consultant for CEMCA and UNRWA and has developed modules for the Commonwealth of Learning. She was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Illinois and has received numerous awards, including the Manthan Award for eGyankosh and DELNET’s Best Lending Library Award.

Prof. Kanjilal also serves as one of the National Coordinators for SWAYAM, a platform offering free online courses across various disciplines, providing learners with high-quality educational content. Additionally, she is associated with SWAYAM PRABHA, which broadcasts educational programs 24/7 through educational DTH (Direct-to-Home) channels.

Q: Β  Is MBA available at IGNOU?

A:

Yes, IGNOU also offers a two-year MBA programme in General, Banking & Finance, Financial Management, HRM, Marketing Management and Operations Management specialisations. Up until past years, i.e., 2021, IGNOU MBA admission was subject to valid scores obtained by the students in the IGNOU OPENMAT exam. However, for 2023 admission, OPENMAT was not conducted for the January and July sessions. Admission is now being granted on a merit-basis. The programme is offered with English as a medium of instruction and applications for the same can be submitted online on the official website.

Yes, IGNOU is a trusted and accredited distance education university. It is a central university which was established by an ACT of parliament in 1985. Therefore, a distance education degree from IGNOU is equivalent to a degree granted by any recognised university in India. Also, the degree from IGNOU University is acceptable and valid overseas and in foreign countries with ease. The reason behind this is IGNOU is a recognised university under the UGC and is a governmental university too. Adding further, an IGNOU degree is approved by DEC and AICTE as well.

There are many universities in India that offer distance MBA programmes to students. Among such universities, IGNOU is one of the most reputed and popular open universities in India. Yes, IGNOU degrees are absolutely valid for corporate and government jobs. It is the only Open University in India that is accredited with the highest A+ Grade by NAAC. Other than this, the Degrees / Certificates / Diplomas awarded by IGNOU are well recognised by all the member institutions of the AIU (Association of Indian Universities). Importantly, all the degrees offered by IGNOU are at par with the corresponding Diplomas, Degrees and Certificates offered by universities across the country. After pursuing a degree from IGNOU and by upskilling in a particular area, students can land jobs in their preferred domain.

A:
Yes, all IGNOU degrees are valid for any purpose, whether you are appearing for any entrance exams or employment exams. It has recognition at the national as well as international levels. IGNOU is a recognized university under the UGC and a government university. Adding further, an IGNOU degree is approved by the Distance Education Bureau (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as well. Additionally, IGNOU provides free UPSC CSE coaching to scheduled caste candidates at no cost. Every year, IGNOU invites applications from scheduled caste students for free coaching of UPSC IAS (prelims and mains).
