Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the appointment of Prof. Uma Kanjilal as the Acting Vice Chancellor, succeeding Prof. Nageshwar Rao upon the completion of his term. Prof. Kanjilal, who has been serving as the Pro-Vice Chancellor, brings a wealth of academic and administrative experience to her new role.
Prof. Uma Kanjilal's distinguished career began in 1984 as a Research Assistant at IIT Kanpur. She has held various positions, including Cataloguer and Professional Assistant at IGNCA, before advancing through the academic ranks at IGNOU from Lecturer to Professor, a position she has held since 2003.
Her extensive administrative experience includes roles as Librarian in Charge, Director of the School of Social Sciences, Director of the Advanced Centre for Informatics and Innovative Learning, Director of the Inter-University Consortium for Technology-Enabled Flexible Education and Development, and Director of the Centre for Online Education.
Internationally, Prof. Kanjilal has served as a consultant for CEMCA and UNRWA and has developed modules for the Commonwealth of Learning. She was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Illinois and has received numerous awards, including the Manthan Award for eGyankosh and DELNETβs Best Lending Library Award.
Prof. Kanjilal also serves as one of the National Coordinators for SWAYAM, a platform offering free online courses across various disciplines, providing learners with high-quality educational content. Additionally, she is associated with SWAYAM PRABHA, which broadcasts educational programs 24/7 through educational DTH (Direct-to-Home) channels.

Yes, IGNOU also offers a two-year MBA programme in General, Banking & Finance, Financial Management, HRM, Marketing Management and Operations Management specialisations. Up until past years, i.e., 2021, IGNOU MBA admission was subject to valid scores obtained by the students in the IGNOU OPENMAT exam. However, for 2023 admission, OPENMAT was not conducted for the January and July sessions. Admission is now being granted on a merit-basis. The programme is offered with English as a medium of instruction and applications for the same can be submitted online on the official website.
