Union Minister to Announce 3 AI Centres of Excellence; INR 990 Crore Budget Proposed

Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan will announce three AI Centres of Excellence (CoE) focusing on Agriculture, Healthcare and Sustainable Cities on October 15 as a part of the 'Make AI in India and Make AI Work for India' campaign.

The announcement of three AI Centres of Excellence (CoE) will focus on three important elements for the growth of the nation i.e. Healthcare, Agriculture and Sustainable Cities. Pradhan will announce the three CoEs on October 15, 2024, in New Delhi with the aim and vision of 'Viksit Bharat'. 

The three CoEs for Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be piloted by educational institutions in association with industry partners and several startups. As a part of the initiative, interdisciplinary research, cutting-edge applications and scalable solutions will be taken care of from the healthcare, agriculture and sustainability fields. Moreover, the other aim of this initiative is to have an effective AI ecosystem and maintain quality human resources in these pre-determined fields. 

As part of the vision to "Make AI in India and Make AI work for India," the establishment of these three AI centres of Excellence has been announced during the budget announcement for 2023-24. The government has ratified a total financial outlay of INR 990 crore between the financial year 2023-24 and to financial year 2027-28. 

An apex committee, co-chaired by Dr. Sridhar Vembu, Founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation, has been constituted to oversee the implementation of the initiative.
