The primary objective of the Yuva Sangam Phase 5 is to strengthen the exchange of culture, traditions, and ideas between the two states of Gujarat and Kerala. The programme seeks to promote tourism, preserve traditions, support technological progress, and foster mutual connections between the youth of these regions.

Yuva Sangam Phase 5: A group of 50 students from prestigious higher education institutions across Gujarat, including IIT Gandhinagar, SVNIT Surat, and Central University of Gujarat, has arrived at IIIT Kottayam, Kerala, as part of the fifth phase of the government’s ambitious cultural and educational initiative, the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Yuva Sangam programme.

IIT Gandhinagar and IIIT Kottayam Lead the Initiative

IIT Gandhinagar, the nodal institute from Gujarat, and IIIT Kottayam, the nodal institute from Kerala, are at the forefront of this exciting exchange programme. The student delegation arrived in Kerala on December 1st, where they were warmly welcomed by the faculty and staff of IIIT Kottayam.

Promoting Cultural Exchange and Mutual Understanding

The primary objective of the Yuva Sangam Phase 5 is to strengthen the exchange of culture, traditions, and ideas between the two states of Gujarat and Kerala. The programme seeks to promote tourism, preserve traditions, support technological progress, and foster mutual connections between the youth of these regions.

Exploring Kerala’s Rich Culture and Heritage

The students’ visit will be packed with cultural explorations and educational activities. The delegates will visit local homes to experience traditional Kerala culture firsthand. They will also tour famous landmarks, including the Kadappatoor Temple, Ettumanoor Temple, Manarcad Church, and Vaikom Temple, enriching their understanding of Kerala’s religious and cultural diversity.

In addition to the spiritual sites, the delegation will explore the thriving rubber industry of Kottayam, which is known for its vast rubber plantations. The students will also visit the Agro Park and the largest archaeological museum in Kerala to gain insights into the region’s agricultural and historical significance.

Interactive Sessions with Renowned Personalities

One of the highlights of the visit will be interactions with Padma Shri awardees, providing the students with an opportunity to engage with eminent personalities who have contributed to their fields. The group will also tour picturesque riverside cottages, ancient buildings, and scenic spots on their way to Alleppy, adding to the enriching cultural experience.

Celebrating Unity in Diversity through Yuva Sangam

The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Rashtriya Ekta Divas in 2015, aims to foster unity and promote mutual understanding between people of different states and union territories. Launched in 2016, the programme has been instrumental in connecting youth from various regions, encouraging them to explore each other’s culture and traditions.

Phase 5 of Yuva Sangam: A Nationwide Movement

For the fifth phase of Yuva Sangam, 20 prominent institutions across India have been identified to lead cultural exchanges. The participating students, led by the nodal higher education institute from their respective states or union territories, will visit their paired state or UT. This phase emphasizes the 5 Ps:

  • Paryatan (Tourism)
  • Parampara (Traditions)
  • Pragati (Development)
  • Paraspar Sampark (People-to-people connect)
  • Prodyogiki (Technology)

The previous phases of the Yuva Sangam initiative have garnered immense enthusiasm, with over 44,000 registrations in the last phase alone. A total of 4,795 youth have participated in 114 tours since the programme’s inception, including the pilot phase in 2022. Yuva Sangam continues to inspire youth across India, helping them build lasting connections and develop a deeper appreciation for the country’s diverse cultures and traditions.
