The chief guest, Union Minister of State for Education, Suhas Sarkar, motivates students to become job creators.
Almost five years after its establishment in Nagpur, the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Nagpur held its first convocation for first two batches today (January 28). The convocation ceremony was held in a virtual mode keeping in mind the COVID-19 situation in the country.
Union Minister of State for Education Suhas Sarkar was the chief guest on the occasion. While delivering the convocation address virtually, Sarkar urged students to know different spheres of the Indian Knowledge System. He emphasised on imparting it to the present and coming generations.
He shared several examples from the ancient texts such as Rigveda, Yantrarnavam, Yuktikalpataru, Vimanasutram, etc, which bear testimony to Ancient India’s immense contribution to various fields.
He accentuated the need for a holistic and multi-disciplinary education system that will not only complement students’ expertise in literacy, numeracy, critical thinking and problem-solving approach but will also make them responsible global citizens.
In his address, the minister motivated students to aim at becoming job creators. He went on to add that the government has encouraged new startups, both in the software and manufacturing sectors, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He lauded IIIT Nagpur for attracting good number of students from all over India and understanding the fast-evolving field of information technology. He wished the graduating students good luck and urged them to make the institution proud and bring it greater eminence.
Union Education Secretary Sanjay Murthy, IIIT Nagpur Board of Governors (BOG) chairman, presided over the programme. Institute Director Omprakash Kakde and Registrar Kailash Dakhale also attend the ceremony.
