The MoU was signed by the director of IIM Bodh Gaya, Vinita Sahay and the director of the state water and land management institute (WALMI), Padma Kant Jha at a function held at Gyan Bhawan.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodh Gaya has collaborated with the state's water resources department (WRD). A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed for carrying out a series of management and skill development programmes for the officials of the department.
The MoU was signed by the director of IIM Bodh Gaya, Vinita Sahay and the director of the state water and land management institute (WALMI), Padma Kant Jha at a function held at Gyan Bhawan. Minister for water resources, and information and public relations Sanjay Kumar Jha, water resources department's secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal and engineer-in-chief Rabindra Kumar Shanker were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister observed that the MoU is a landmark move in the direction of agricultural development in the state. Integration of engineering and management would provide lasting solutions to the various problems of water resources. Properly trained personnel of the department would be able to tackle the problems of floods and droughts effectively, he said.
Padma Kant Jha discussed the importance of training and said IIM- Bodh Gaya can help build the leadership and management capability of the engineers of the department. Rabindra Kumar Shanker said that leadership and management training will significantly improve the performance of the department.
Sanjay Kumar Agarwal emphasised the need of developing management capability of the engineers as most of them are virtually practice managers. The MoU envisages that in an agricultural state like Bihar, there is a pressing need to develop an efficient irrigation system. Yet, the state's distinctive geography makes it difficult to protect life and property from floods.
