An Indian government-owned coal mining and refining Corporation, Coal India Limited (CIL) contributes around 82% to the total coal production in the country.

The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta has joined hands with the Coal India Limited. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the two with an aim to train its senior executives in a week-long residential program on 'Contract Management’. The signing of the MoU took place between SK Singh, GM- HRD, Coal India Limited on behalf of CIL and Professor Manish Thakur, Dean, IIM, Calcutta on behalf of IIM, Calcutta. The occasion also marked the presence of Vinay Ranjan, Director - P&IR, CIL, and Professor Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Director, IIM, Calcutta.

An Indian government-owned coal mining and refining Corporation, Coal India Limited (CIL) is the largest coal-producing company in the world and a Maharatna public sector undertaking. Coal India Limited contributes around 82% to the total coal production in India.

According to the official press note, the collaboration between Coal India Limited and a public business school, the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta will give the major exposure for better training to the senior executives of CIL. 

Established as the first Indian Institute of Management, IIM Calcutta was recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India in 2017. IIM Calcutta is one of only three triple-accredited business schools in India and the first to get recognition.

IIM Calcutta Reopening

The management institute is planning to reopen campus and recall students who are attending online classes from home amid the ongoing pandemic situation. B-school officials revealed that IIM-C is expected to commence offline classes from December-end. Almost 75 percent of students have already been recalled by IIM-C as they were facing internet connectivity issues coming in the way while attending online classes. Now, the institute’s internet connectivity facilities are being used by these students to attend classes via virtual mode.
