IIT Gandhinagar welcomes PhD, MTech students

The institute is conducting an intensive foundation programme, ‘Aarohan’, for postgraduate students joining the institute. The two-week programme will conclude on January 2, 2022.

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) welcomed the incoming batch of PhD and MTech students on December 20. The institute Director Sudhir Jain addressed the students and interacted with them during the inaugural session.  

IITGN is conducting an intensive foundation programme, ‘Aarohan’, for postgraduate students joining the institute. The idea behind the programme is to integrate students coming from heterogeneous educational and socioeconomic backgrounds into the institute’s ethos, culture, and rigors.  

As part of ‘Aarohan’, sessions on the art of communication, ideation, creative learning, scientific writing, leadership, paper engineering, and many more will be organised. Jhuma Saha from electrical engineering, Sameer Kulkarni from computer science & engineering, and Utsav Mannu from earth sciences are coordinating the two-week programme, which will conclude on January 2, 2022.  

Meanwhile, the institute has invited applications from eligible BTech final-year students for its start early PhD programme beginning in July 2022. The last date to apply for the programme is January 14, 2022. As per the institute, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score is not mandatory for admission to start early PhD programme. Candidates are encouraged to appear for GATE for an enhanced stipend rate. A monthly stipend of INR 41,000 (for candidates with valid GATE score) or INR 31,000 (for others) will be provided. Also, travel support up to INR 2 lakh will be given to the candidate for attending international conferences and support of up to $12,500 may be considered for research at leading universities/labs abroad for a period of up to six months.
