Reports suggest that despite the high number of COVID positive cases, the IIT Madras COVID cluster is still contained inside the campus.

IIT Madras COVID-19 tally reaches 171

IIT Madras COVID-cluster: The number of novel coronavirus cases at the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras are on the surge continuously. People are shocked and scared seeing the COVID-positive tally of the institute. As of today, the IIT Madras COVID tally has touched 171. Over 25 new cases have been reported from the institute taking the COVID tally only higher.

IIT Madras COVID cluster contained inside campus

Reports suggest that despite the high number of COVID positive cases, the IIT Madras COVID cluster is still contained inside the campus. The authorities have advised people not to panic as the institute is carrying out testing. More than 6,000 test samples have been collected from the institute between April 19 and 28, 2022.

As per ANI’s earlier report, IIT Madras had reported a COVID tally of 111 cases. However, in today's briefing, TN Health Secretary Dr. J Radhakrishnan said, "Total 171 Covid19 cases detected in IIT-Madras campus till now."

Further, the Health Secretary has also said that IIT Madras has not been closed as of now. Continuous efforts are being made by the government and authorities to ensure that the IIT Madras COVID cluster does not spread to other places, he added.

The report further state, that Principal Secretary-Health, Dr J Radhakrishnan said, "Today few more cases have been reported in IIT Madras. These all are part of our saturation test. Nothing to panic about. We've not closed the institution. We are ensuring that the cluster doesn't spread to other places."

Strict COVID-19 protocols are being followed in the institute. IIT Madras has also advised people who have come in contact with the institute’s personnel or students to get themselves tested for COVID.
