IIT Roorkee celebrates first Institute Research Day

IIT Roorkee Director Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi said the institute has decided to celebrate Institute Research Day every year on March 14. 

The senate of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee accorded approval on the recommendation of 53rd Institute Research Committee to commemorate March 14 every year as the Institute Research Day.  This day is also significant as the birth anniversary of all-time great scientist Albert Einstein (March 14, 1879) and Pi(π)-Day (3.14). 

Virtual Research Gallery

IIT Roorkee Director Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi inaugurated the first Institute Research Day on March 14 and the Virtual Research Gallery (VRG) in a ceremony held on the campus. The Virtual Research Gallery showcased selected researches of IIT Roorkee through a short video and abstracts. 

A research poster presentation competition was also organised in which a number of Researchers from the institute participated. They were also awarded certificates and cash prize. Prof Chaturvedi saod, “It is time to showcase our research using technologies and to make innovation a way of life. IIT Roorkee has decided to celebrate Institute Research Day every year on March 14. The enthusiastic participation of the research scholars and faculty shows that this day will become an important day in the institute’s annual calendar of events.” 

In the evening, the 3rd CV Raman Memorial Lecture was organised by the Department of Physics, IIT Roorkee, and a virtual talk on “Black Hole Thermodynamics: Then and Now” was delivered by Prof Edward Witten, Fields Medalist, Charles Simonyi Professor, Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. 

Asesh Sarkar, a PhD student of Architecture and Planning at the Institute, said, “For the first time, our institute has hosted a Research Day for all scholars of IIT Roorkee. As a participant, I viewed this as a great opportunity for students to exhibit their research skills while simultaneously expressing their thoughts on a public forum. Researchers have been motivated to set and maintain high research standards as a result of this.”
