Indian students pursuing MBBS from China seek practical training, internship in India
A plea in Kerala High Court has sought practical training and internship in India for Indian medical students pursuing MBBS from Chinese universities.
Kerala High Court will consider a petition filed on behalf of 92 foreign medical students who are studying in different medical colleges in China. The petition has sought direction to concerned authorities to provide these medical students with practical training and internship in India till the travel restrictions in China are lifted.
Justice N Nagaresh has admitted the matter today and scheduled it for a hearing on March 30, as reported by Live Law.
Country has failed in providing affordable medical education, says the petition
"The students are treated as outcasts without any rights, when they have done nothing in contradictory to the law of the land. The students in Exhibit-P1 list are NEET qualified students, forced to study aboard due to their financial Constraints. The country has failed in providing affordable medical education and increasing the number of seats available for medical education in the country. The state of Kerala happens to levy the lowest fees amongst all the states of India, even this is much higher than the fees the students would have to pay in top Chinese universities to receive their medical education," the petition reads.
The students also pointed out that the Chinese Universities recognize the internship completed in the home countries of the students as long as the hospital has WHO-approved standards. They have alleged that the Indian Commission had not provided them with an opportunity to complete their practical training or join for an Internship.
