The protest was conducted under the banner Foreign Medical Graduates Parents Association (FMGPA) - an association of parents of medical students in foreign countries.

Plight of Indian students studying MBBS from China universities

Indian students who are studying MBBS from China universities are also facing the same uncertainty as Ukraine returned medical students. These students cannot go back to China due to travel restrictions imposed by China amid the Covid-19 pandemic. They are only attending their online classes from India. However, National Medical Commission (NMC) had recently said that it does not recognize or approve medical courses done only by online mode.

These students have continued their physical training at government and private hospitals in the state and now demanding recognition of their physical training in India. If it is not recognised they would not be able to practice medicine in India.

"We were forced to come back from China in January 2020. It's been two years since we have been attending online classes. We don't have any recognition of whether the Indian government will accept us with these online classes. Most of us are doing are practicals at various government and private hospitals in Kerala, but is not recognised," said Murshid Aleen, a fourth-year medical student at Yangzhou University, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.
