Industrial Training Institute Berhampur students develops solar tree
Students took around five days to develop the solar tree on an experimental basis under the guidance of the teaching staff.
Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Berhampur located in Odisha’s Ganjam district has installed a solar tree on its campus. The students of the institute have developed the solar tree. The structure designed like a tree is made of metal. Solar panels are connected with its metal branches that use sunlight to generate energy. Solar panels require a lot of space and Space crunch is one of the major hurdles for installation. However, the structure of solar tree consumes less space and can be installed anywhere near a building.
The trial run of the two-KW system started recently, the official of the institute informed PTI. The structure of the solar tree has been designed in such a way that each solar panel has the maximum exposure to sunlight. The 12-feet solar tree installed on ITI Berhampur campus has 12 solar panels.
The institute spent nearly INR 2 lakh to develop it, sources said. The tree is flexible in nature and rotates to face the sun to produce the maximum amount of energy, according to the principal. While the concept of the solar tree was not new, the ITI Berhampur has developed it for the first time in the state.
Institute plans to set up department for solar technicians
Students took around five days to develop the solar tree on an experimental basis under the guidance of the teaching staff. Earlier, the world's largest solar tree was developed by CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute. It was was installed at its residential colony in Durgapur, West Bengal.
The authorities have also established a workshop in the institute to repair the photovoltaic solar panels and other systems. The institute is also planning to set up a department for solar technicians with 40 seats is also in the process.
