Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced 4 per cent reservation for students from Ladakh in all the engineering and medical colleges across the Union Territory.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced that it has reserved 4 per cent seats for the students from Ladak in all professional colleges across the Union Territory for the academic year 2020-21. The decision was taken keeping in mind that Ladak doesn't have any engineering or medical colleges. The decision was taken in a meeting conducted by Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam to review the status of the reservation of seats for the students from Ladakh in professional institutions for the 2020-21 academic year.
The Chief Secretary said that the reservation in the professional institutions is governed in terms of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act and rules which have been amended after the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir. The act however does not apply for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He further stated that the decision was taken considering the non-availability of any professional institutions in the Union Territory of Ladak and the recommendations made by the Advisory Committee that was formed by the Centre government.
He also added that 24 seats from engineering colleges and 35 from medical colleges will be deducted from the total number of seats and reservations for Jammu and Kashmir students will be calculated from the remaining seats according to the JK Reservation Act and rules. The Chief Secretary has also asked the General Administration Department to inform the Ladakh Administration accordingly.
With regard to the seats reserved for the students from Ladakh, the Chief Secretary directed the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) to take up the matter with Ladakh Administration keeping in mind the admission policy and reservation policy to be adopted for selecting their candidates.
