Jammu and Kashmir distributes health cards to government school students in the state

Jammu and Kashmir government distributes health cards to government school students studying in Classes 1 to 12.

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has distributed health cards to the students studying in the state-run government schools. The state administration along with the Mid-day meal (MDM) and National Health Mission distributed the card to all students in Classes 1 to 12. Around 12 lakh students have received the health card which will make sure the students receive better healthcare and facilitate all-round development for them. 

In March 2020, former Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Murmu had introduced the initiative to ensure better health and facility for students. As per the reports, there are at least 23,747 government schools from which 12,252 schools are in the Kashmir Division while 11,495 schools are located in the Jammu Division. 

The health cards were distributed by Arun Manhas, Project Director, Jammu and Kashmir Samagra Shiksha and Mid-day Meal (MDM), Jammu and Kashmir. While speaking to a media house he said that "the health card prepared by the MDM, Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with the National Health Mission, Jammu and Kashmir will be the health archive of all the students from classes 1 to 12. 

With the help of the health care, the state will be able to maintain a proper health record of all enrolled students which could contain information regarding the immunization record of a child, bi-annual exam of the child, head to toe for 4D to find out defects at birth, deficiency, diseases, and development delays. Medical check-up of the students will also be conducted once a year mandatory under the new health card.
