Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has introduced new regulations for outpatient department (OPD) visits and teleconsultation services to reduce transmission risk amid the third wave of Covid 19.

JIPMER, Puducherry

While the colleges and schools in Puducherry will remain closed till January 31 due to the spike in Covid-19 cases, the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has also introduced new rules for teleconsultation services and outpatient department (OPD) visits to reduce the risk of transmission.

Jipmer Director Rakesh Aggarwal has said that the number of Covid-19 patients has rapidly increased in the last three weeks, and more and more Covid positive patients are getting admitted to the hospital. Hence, to reduce the risk of transmission of Covid infection to people who are going to OPD for consultation, JIPMER has decided to start teleconsultation services and also OPD services will be continued with 50 patients in each department from today, as reported by The Hindu.

The patients are advised to register for consultation by calling on the number provided on the JIPMER website www.jipmer.edu.in and book an appointment for teleconsultation. All OPD from today onwards will be based on prior appointments issued by each department.

Other Covid appropriate steps include all patients and attenders must be in masks, OPD visits will be through prior appointment only, there will be only one attendee for each patient, teleconsultation is must before physical visits to the hospital. All patients and their attendants are encouraged to be fully vaccinated against the Covid-19. Currently, all emergency medical and surgical services are continued as before.
