The Delhi High Court has dismissed the pleas challenging the minimum age criteria of six years for Kendriya Vidyalaya Class 1 admission for the upcoming academic session. While dealing with a batch of petitions arguing that the sudden change in the minimum age requirement from five years to six years by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) was unreasonable and arbitrary, Justice Rekha Palli said, "I am dismissing the petitions.”
A detailed order regarding the would be available either Monday or Tuesday, Justice Palli informed. The Central government, represented by Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, argued that there was no "vested right" in the petitioners to seek admission in KV and the petitioners would become eligible for admission next year.
Age-criteria eligibility in lines with NEP 2020
Earlier, the senior advocate informed the court that the decision was not sudden. The change in age limit criteria is in terms of the National Education Policy (NEP) which came in 2020 and the policy is not under challenge. He had urged the court to not “interdict” as its order would have a pan-India impact and create “heterogeneity” amongst the students who would be aged five to seven years.

The last date to apply for Class 1 admissions at Kendriya Vidyalayas has been extended until April 13, 2022. While applying for KVS Class 1 admission, parents and guardians are advised to keep certain documents ready such as Age proof, Proof of relationship for grandchildren of Members of Parliament and PSU employees, KVS employees, Category certificate (SC, ST, etc), if applicable, PwD certificate (if applicable), A certificate of retirement for uniformed Defence employees, Residence proof.

- Click on the registration link
- Register using the required credentials
- Fill in the admission application form, upload all the required documents and click on submit
- Download the KVS admission form for future reference
