AIBE 18 COP Update: BCI releases AIBE Certificate of Practice for all states, check details

AIBE 18 Certificate of Practice (COP) Update: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has announced the release of the AIBE 18 (VIII) Certificate of Practice (COP) 2023. According to the official notification, the COP has been issued for all State Bar Councils including the Karnataka State Bar Council.  It must be noted that earlier the Council had not released the COP for Karnataka. The AIBE 18 exam was held on December 10, 2023, and the AIBE 18 Results 2023 were declared on March 26, 2024.

Candidates should be aware that practicing in a court of law is not permitted without the Certificate of Practice (COP). The BCI has made it mandatory for all lawyers to obtain a Certificate of Practice (COP) within two years of provisional enrollment. The BCI in an official notification stated that, "We would like to inform you that the Certificate of Practice (COP) for the AIBE-XVIII examination has been dispatched to all State Bar Councils, including the Karnataka State Bar Council. We kindly request all candidates to collect their COP from their respective State Bar Councils. For any queries or assistance regarding the collection process, please contact your respective State Bar Councils directly."

AIBE 18: Steps to Fill the Application for COP from the State Bar Council

Candidates can follow these simple steps to apply for the Certificate of Practice (COP):

  • Download or Obtain the Application Form: Access the COP application form from the official website or office of your respective State Bar Council.
  • Complete the Application Form: Fill in the required details, including your academic qualifications, bar council enrollment, and AIBE qualifying status.
  • Submit the Application: Send the completed application form along with the necessary documents and application fee.

How to Obtain COP from the State Bar Council

In the past, eligible candidates received notifications from the Bar Council of India regarding the availability of COP at their state bar councils. Candidates would then visit their respective councils to obtain the COP. 

To provide candidates with immediate access to a digital version of their COP until they receive the printed copy, the Bar Council introduced the AIBESCOPE smartphone application in 2021. Currently, applicants must complete the application form available on their state bar council's official website.

Q:   What is AIBE 19 (XIX) Exam Date?

AIBE 19 Exam 2024 date was conducted on December 22, 2024. Only those candidates who are enrolled with any state bar council were eligible to apply. AIBE 19 Exam was conducted in 22 regional languages including english. The AIBE Exam 2024 was conducted in offline, pen-and-paper mode acorss the country.

Q:   How to get previous years papers for AIBE 2024?

Earlier, the exam authority provided the question paper of AIBE English language) on the official website. However, after vernacular languages have been included in the question paper, the exam authority no longer uploads the question paper on the official website of AIBE. Rather, it is available only with those who attempt the examination. Candidates who take the examination are only able to view it when raising objections on it at the time of answer keys objection process. Candidates can, however, obtain previous years papers for AIBE as available on Shiksha website - https://www.shiksha.com/law/aibe-exam-question-papers The question papers available here are official papers as collected from the past 3-4 years. You can download AIBE question papers and practice with simple registration process.

Q:   Are Bare Acts allowed in AIBE 19 (XIX) 2024?

A:

Yes, Bare Acts were allowed in the AIBE examination. All India Bar Examination website stated that " Bare Acts without notes are allowed. In case of unavailability of Bare Acts without notes, Bare Acts with least short notes will be allowed subject to the discretion of the Examiner/Invigilator".

Candidates were not allowed to carry books, any electronic items to the exam centre. AIBE is no more an open-book exam. The exam was held in 50+ cities across the country.
