CLAT 2024 to be held in regional languages? Check latest update

CLAT exam for the 2024 academic year is scheduled to be held on December 3, 2023. CLAT 2024 will be conducted in pen-paper mode. The Consortium of National Universities (NLUs) at present conducts the CLAT exam in English language. Read further to know if it will be conducted in the regional languages or not.

CLAT 2024 to be held in regional languages or not has been the topic of discussion for sometime now. The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has now informed the Delhi Higher Court that preparation of CLAT 2024 is at present at a very advanced stage and any judicial order to introduce the additional language options this year, without discussions, will result in serious administrative and operational concerns. At present, Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted in English. 

CLAT exam for the 2024 academic year is scheduled to be held on December 3, 2023. The consortium informed the HC that it has formed an expert committee of Vice-chancellors of five member National Law Universities (NLUs) to look into the matter of conducting the exam in additional languages and to prepare a roadmap after considering the viewpoints of the stakeholders and potential constraints. The submission was made in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) urging the conduct of CLAT - 2024 in regional languages as well.

A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad asked the expert committee, which has been formed to consider the conduct of CLAT in multiple languages, to take a decision in their next meeting, which is scheduled in August. The high court will further hear the matter on September 1.

CLAT 2024 application process is currently underway. Candidates can apply on or before November 3, 2023.
