Former CJI UU Lalit to join NUJS Kolkata as Visiting Professor

As per reports, Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) UU Lalit has accepted an invitation to attend as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Law of West Bengal (NUJS), Kolkata.

During his tenure at CJI, Judge UU Lalit was also the Prime Minister of NUJS. The vice-president of the university’s student law association said, “I am convinced that having Honorary Judge Lalit on our faculty will be of great benefit to the students and the university," as reported by Times Nation.

The former CJI said during a recent interview that after leaving the CJI, he would not hesitate to accept government posts such as chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Lokpal and chairman of the Judiciary Commission. He had also expressed his penchant for teaching law. 

"I want to teach law at different levels. Maybe the National Academy of Justice as an adjunct. I went to several law schools as a visiting professor,” said former CJI.

This acceptance comes just days after he stepped down as India’s 49th Chief Justice. He began his legal career in June 1983 and was appointed to the Supreme Court of India on August 13, 2014. 

NUJS to organise 43rd All India Criminology Conference from December 17 to December 19

The national law university in West Bengal in association with the Indian Society of Criminology is all set to organise the 43rd All India Criminology Conference from December 17 to December 19. Registration can be done till November 30, the registration fee for foreign delegates is USD 200, for academicians, it is INR 3,500, for students and research scholars - INR 2000 and for accompanying persons which can only be one person, the fee is INR 2500.

The 43rd All India Criminology Conference is open for academicians, researchers, practitioners, and professionals otherwise engaged in the criminology and criminal justice sectors as well as interested learners and students. 

The aim is to serve as a platform for a healthy discussion and exchange of ideas related to the role of science and technology in contemporary criminal activities.
