Gujarat Assembly passes Bill to amend Gujarat National Law University Act

Gujarat Assembly has unanimously passed two Bills that proposed to amend the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) Act and Gujarat Municipalities Act. The amended GNLU Act will enable the university to set up a campus outside the state.

"The university is in the process to set up a campus in Silvassa, in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, as proposed by administrator Praful Patel," said sources privy to the development, as reported by Indian Express.

“Much of the groundwork has been done for the first campus of GNLU outside of Gujarat, in Silvassa”, the source said.

As per the original Act of 2003, GNLU could only set up a campus in Gujarat, whose section 3 (1) has now been amended to say, “Provided that the General Council may, from time to time, through resolution establish additional campus within or outside the State of Gujarat under the control of the University. The General Council shall have all the powers to govern, administer and manage such additional campus so established as per the provisions of this act”.

The seventh edition of GNLU's Air and Space Law Academy is from September 26 to September 30, 2022. It is being organised by GNLU in association with the Institute of Air Law, Space Law and Cyber Law, University of Cologne.
