MNLU to organise workshop on excellence in drafting commercial contracts

Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai is all set to organise a two-day workshop on excellence in drafting commercial contracts from May 19 to May 20, 2022.

Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) Mumbai in association with Corp. Comm. Legal is organising a two-day workshop on excellence in drafting commercial contracts from May 19 to May 20, 2022. The course prerequisite is the students should have knowledge of the Contract Act.

"Contract drafting/reviewing skill is one of the most important traits of any lawyer and can hardly be overemphasised – be it practising in a court, working with a law firm or a company," says the official notification.

MNLU workshop to impart practical skills in drafting commercial contracts 

There are books in the market on Contract law but they do not provide practical skills. Reading draft contracts or even books on drafting has its own limitations as per the notification.

"During internships, students hardly get work beyond proof-reading of a contract. In a law firm, once hired, no one is given any concessions for not knowing contract drafting beforehand, despite knowing that most students are not taught this in law school," says the notification.

"As a result, most students learn by trial and error. Many prevalent practices are outdated, superfluous, or even counterproductive. Realising this, legal educational institutions are enhancing their engagement with professionals to impart practical knowledge to their students to make them job ready and infuse confidence. To develop the skill of understanding, drafting and negotiating different types of Contract, this workshop is being organised, " added the notification.
