The proposal for establishing the National Law University Tripura (NLUT) was approved by the Tripura state cabinet.
The Tripura state cabinet has approved the proposal for setting the National Law University Tripura (NLUT) which will be self-sustained after five years from its inception.
The chancellor of the university will be the chief justice of the High Court of Tripura, as reported by Telegraph India.
Sushanta Chowdhury, the Information and cultural affairs minister has said that the finance department has earmarked INR 50 crores for the setting up of the proposed university and also to cover all its expenditure for five years.
"The state cabinet today gave its nod to the proposal for NLUT, a long pending demand of the people of the state."
"The proposed varsity will be self-sustained from its own resources after five years of its existence," he added, as reported by India Today.
After five years, the NLUT authorities will have to bear the recurring and non-recurring expenditure of the university.
Governing council to take care of the university
The minister further informed that there is going to be a governing council to take care of the NLUT and the chancellor would serve as its chairman. It will also have academic, finance and executive councils.
“For smooth and effective functioning, a 13-member governing body will be constituted headed by Chief Justice. Apart from him, retired judges, sitting judges of the High Court, eminent lawyers and advocate general will be part of the committee be formed at the behest of Chancellor”, he said, as reported by North East Now.
