Tamil Nadu government has issued an order for implementing its 69% reservation scheme while filling up 50% of All India Quota (AIQ) seats for Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU) from the academic session 2022-23.
The Tamil Nadu government has decided that Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU) need to follow its 69% reservation scheme for admission to 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats from the academic year 2022-23.
“After carefully considering the situation and a detailed review, the Tamil Nadu government has decided and accordingly issued orders to fill seats in the all India quota by reserving 69% of seats like it is being followed while filling 45% of seats earmarked for resident students of Tamil Nadu,” said the official order.
The state government has issued orders that for the 50% AIQ seats, 31% is for General Category, 1% is for Scheduled Tribes, 18% for Scheduled Castes and 50% is for Other Backward Classes (OBC) for undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in TNNLU.
The 45% of total seats in state-run universities embarked for the domicile students of the state are already being filled by following TN's reservation policy to provide 69% reservation for STs, SCs and OBCs.
About Tamil Nadu National Law University
It was developed on 25 acres at Navalur Kuttapattu village at Srirangam in Tiruchi district in the year 2012 through an act. Earlier, it was called Tamil Nadu National Law School which was later renamed Tamil Nadu National Law University in 2018.
It offers 5-year undergraduate courses B.A., LL.B (Honours) and B.Com., LL.B (Honours) and LL.M degree courses with a total intake of 138 students. The admissions to these courses are done on the basis of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
In TNNLU, 50% of seats are for AIQ, 45% for domicile students and 5% for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).
