The incident unfolded on Thursday when Dhruv allegedly jumped in front of a metro train on the Purple Line in western Bengaluru.

In a heart-wrenching incident, a first-year law student, Dhruv Jatin Thakkar, hailing from Mumbai, met an untimely demise at a Bengaluru metro station. The incident, suspected to be a case of suicide, has left the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) community in shock and grief.

The incident unfolded on Thursday when Dhruv allegedly jumped in front of a metro train on the Purple Line in western Bengaluru. The fatality not only disrupted metro services temporarily but also prompted authorities to delve into the circumstances leading to the tragic event.

Sudhir Krishnaswamy, the Vice Chancellor of NLSIU, expressed profound sadness over the loss of Dhruv, describing him as a warm and compassionate individual, beloved by both peers and faculty. The university, in solidarity with Dhruv's family and friends, announced the suspension of all classes for the remainder of the week.

Furthermore, the university has organized a condolence meeting scheduled for Friday, 22nd March 2024, at 11 AM in the Old Academic Quadrangle, inviting members of the NLS community to pay their respects. Additionally, welfare support services and counseling facilities have been made available to aid anyone in need during this challenging time.

Authorities, including the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and local law enforcement, are actively investigating the incident. Police intend to question Dhruv's classmates and friends to ascertain the possible motive behind his drastic actions.

As the NLSIU community mourns the loss of Dhruv Thakkar, they also emphasize the importance of respecting the privacy of his family during this period of mourning. This tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the mental health challenges faced by students and underscores the need for continued support and awareness within academic institutions.
