Lucknow University to offer in-house internship under Karmoday Scheme

Lucknow University has announced that it has introduced a new in-house internship programme for students. The initiative has been named the ‘Karmoday’ Scheme and it is in line with the suggestions mentioned in National Education Policy, NEP 2020. The scheme was implemented mainly for students who were unable to apply for the ‘Karmyogi’ scheme.

Under the ‘Karmoday’ scheme, the internship for students will be for the duration of a minimum of 50 days and the maximum duration being one whole semester. The maximum working hours for the students will be 2 hours a day and it will be distributed over a period of two months. 

As per the media reports, the ‘Karmoday’ scheme was initiated by Professor Alok Kumar Rai, vice-chancellor, to bring into action clause 12 of NEP2020, which lays emphasises on adequate student support focused on the development of capabilities among students in higher education.

All those students who are in the final or pre-final year of bachelor's or masters' courses can apply for the internship. However, it is mandatory that they should also be  enrolled for the regular or self-finance courses at Lucknow university. Students who have passed with minimum of 60 per cent in the previous examination and have at least 75 per cent attendance in the previous academic semester/year can apply for the Karmoday scheme.

The internship scheme will add to the students’ resumes as once they complete the internship; they will be awarded a certificate of completion. 

Speaking about the same, the Dean of Students Welfare of Lucknow University stated that the scheme will align with NEP 2020 and will also create an environment for students that will help enhance their capabilities and strengthen them. The internships will be unpaid, providing a hands-on approach to learning, infused with work ethics such as respect for the work students engage in.
