Madras University Free Education Scheme: The University of Madras released seat allotment order for a total of 194 candidates under various undergraduate programmes on Monday. The candidates are beneficiaries of the Madras University Free Education Scheme. The scheme was launched in 2010-11. So far, Madras University Free Education Scheme benefits around 250 students every year. According to the official criteria laid down by the varsity, candidates whose annual family income is below INR 3 lakh are eligible for this scheme.
Preference will be given to students from economically backward sections, orphans, children of widows and first graduates. The allotment letters would be distributed by Vice-Chancellor S Gowri in the Chepauk campus.
About Madras University Free Education Scheme
Candidates who have passed Class 12 and whose family annual income is below INR 3 lakh are eligible for Madras University Free Education Scheme. In June, Madras University invited candidates who have passed Class 12 in 2021-22 and wish to pursue undergraduate programmes in arts and sciences for the academic year 2022-23 in aided and self-financing colleges affiliated to the university.
The varsity stated, “The annual family income of candidates should be below INR 3 lakh. Economically backward students, orphans, children of widows and first-generation graduates would be given preference.”
“The details of documents to be uploaded are available on the university website www.unom.ac.in. Candidates may apply within 15 days of the publication of Class XII results. University registrar has said that only online applications with scanned copies of all documents will be accepted,” the varsity informed.
