Considering that teaching in local languages help students understand better, the government of Maharashtra has decided to introduce integrated and bilingual textbooks for Class 1 students.
The government of Maharashtra has decided to introduce integrated and bilingual textbooks for Class 1 students in Marathi medium schools from the coming academic year, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said on Monday. The education minister talked about the government’s decision while replying to queries raised by some MLAs in the Assembly.
The minister talked about the importance of mother tongue, and teaching in the local language would make it easier for students to understand. Minister Varsha Gaikwad said, “Students understand better what is taught to them in their mother tongue. But they should also understand English words (for Marathi words). We are also committed to reducing the burden of their books. So, we will introduce integrated plus bilingual books from class 1 in the state,” the minister said.
Maharashtra Budget 2022
On March 21, 2022, the Maharashtra state government also announced the budget for 2022-23. Gaikwad took to Twitter and said, “The demands for grants in the school education department’s budget were positively discussed in the assembly and they were accepted by a majority. During the discussion, members of both sides made a number of valuable suggestions. My department has taken note of all the suggestions.”
Quality online content in local languages for school students
Meanwhile, Government schools across Maharashtra and Goa will soon get free online access to curriculum-linked educational content under CSR initiative launched by ConnectEd Technologies in collaboration with Forever Living Products India (FLPI).
The program, CSR-funded by FLPI, and executed by ConnectEd Technologies with support from Seva Sahayog Foundation aims to provide quality vernacular educational content to government school students, in a bid to improve learning outcomes, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to the official press note.
