The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has rationalized nomenclatures and notified a list of 73 postgraduate diploma and MBA courses. This is aimed at reducing the nomenclature in the management courses.
The Council has also decided that the MBA or PG diploma courses in the following four subjects- Modern Office Management, Modern Office Management and Secretarial Practices, Modern Office Practice and National Management Programme- be converted into vocational courses.
As per a senior official. The AICTE approved stand-alone institutions offering PG diploma level courses and the universities offering MBA courses have been directed to go through the list and accordingly change the nomenclature while applying online for the Extension of Approval (EOA) of the courses being offered from the 2020 academic session.
Management courses which are presently called Tourism and Leisure, Tourism and Travel and Tourism Management, will be known as MBA or PG Diploma in ‘Travel and Tourism’, while the courses in Telecom, Telecom and Information Technology, Telecom and Marketing and Telecom Management will be called ‘Telecom Management’. Likewise, courses in Business Entrepreneurship, Business Management, Commercial and Computer Practice, Business Management, Business Studies, Computer Management and Management Studies will be offered as ‘Business Management’.
Some new courses have also been introduced by AICTE. The courses include- Social Enterprise Management, Small Enterprise Management, Heritage Management, Operations Management, Innovation Management, Consulting, Strategy, Sports Management, MBA or PG diploma in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, Engineering Management, Design Thinking and Organisational Behaviour.
