CAT 2019: Student Reactions and Reviews: Slot 1 and Slot 2

CAT 2019 exam was held successfully today. Shiksha reached one of the exam centres in New Delhi to know the reaction of CAT 2019 test takers. Read in this article student reactions and reviews of the CAT 2019 question paper. 

CAT 2019 exam was held across India in two sessions. This year the exam was conducted by IIM Kozhikode and about 2.44 lakh candidates appeared for it. According to the student the question paper was on the same lines as previous years and of moderate difficulty. Shiksha spoke to a few candidates who appeared for the exam for their review of the CAT 2019 question paper. Here's what they said.

Divyansh from NSIT Delhi said, “CAT 2019 was relatively easier compared to the last year’s paper. In terms of the length of the paper, it was pretty much fine except the Quant section particularly which was a little lengthier than usual however, what was easy compared to last year’s paper was that the DI LR section was relatively simple and straightforward. Not many tricks were involved. The VARC, which is Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, was pretty much of the same level as it always has been. The main benefit would be in the DILR section where it was relatively higher scoring section and the Quant section was also relatively easier compared to last year, although it was lengthy in terms of the time commitment”.

Kritika Gupta from TIME Institute said, “Paper was easy, but I found some sections tough like Quant. I was not able to do it in one hour, so I got many questions wrong. LRDI section was easy and I liked the paper. Yes, the paper was lengthy. I gave the paper for the first time.”

Himanshu said, “In CAT 2019’s slot 1 paper, I think VARC was bit medium, LR was medium to difficult but Quant was actually easy to medium. So, overall paper I think was medium and it was manageable. I think only Logical Reasoning part was lengthy and little bit of Quantitative Aptitude was also lengthy.”

Aseem from Alchemist Institute said, “I find the question paper to be tricky as the Quant section and DILR were moderate and English was also hard. Yes, the paper was a bit lengthy.”

Kumbaj from DCE said, “The exam was pretty much easy. I found Quant a little difficult, DI LR was as expected and the Vocabulary was pretty easy. The only section I found difficult was Quant. Paper was not tough or lengthy, it is just that, if someone would have done enough practice and enough Mock Test, they would have found it easy only. The Quant section I guess was tricky.”

Uttam Kumar of Shyama Prasad College, Kolkata said, “As per my experience I have given the exam and I found Quant paper pretty lengthy, time taking papers. Otherwise, the LRDI and Verbal sections were quite good for me. Yes, the paper was lengthy.”

Anjay Chakravarty said,"The difficulty level of VARC was on the higher side because of the kind of RC passages. DILR I found it little bit easier, I managed to attempt more than four sets. There were 3 DI sets."

Siddharth Pierre said, "Verbal was easy, there were 2-3 passages with more than 4 questions, one passage was slightly difficult, remaining were pretty easy."

Sahil Abhishek said, "I found the VARC section doable. There were no surprises for me. There were five RC passages. The first passage was a bit complicated and verbose. The VA compared to last year was a bit difficult but it was easier this year compared on other sections."

Ashish said,"Compared to last year VARC was very difficult. The language were very difficult and options were very close. VA was very difficult. LRDI was easier than last year and QA too was easier than last year. There were a lot of Arithmetic and Algebra questions and straightforward Geometry fundas to apply."

Satyajit Pati said,"Para summaries were pretty simple. The parajumbles were standard and the sentence elimination was just like CAT 2018. In RC, two of the paragraphs reminded me of GMAT. They were on a higher level. RC was tougher than last year but still doable."
