In a significant move to bolster the security of the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have announced that mobile phone jammers will be deployed at select exam centres for the first time. This proactive measure aims to prevent the use of unfair means and ensure the integrity of one of the country’s most competitive management entrance exams. The decision to employ jammers is likely a response to the rising incidence of exam malpractices seen during other high-stakes national-level tests.
CAT scores are valid for admission to 21 IIMs and several top-tier MBA colleges across India. Scheduled for November 24, 2024, CAT will be held in three sessions across over 170 cities nationwide, with each session featuring a unique test form. The organising institute, IIM Calcutta, has implemented a stringent process of score normalisation to maintain fairness in comparing candidates' performance across different sessions. This normalisation adjusts for variations in score distributions, ensuring comparability of scores and the conversion of scaled scores into percentiles. These percentiles are critical for shortlisting candidates for further rounds, including the Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI).
