All IITs and IIMs in the country should hold a special placement drives for the students who lost their job offers during coronavirus outbreak, said Union Human Resource Development minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ''Nishank''.
Human Resource Development minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ''Nishank'' has directed directors of all the IITs and IIMs around the country to hold a special placement drives for the students whose job offers were revoked during coronavirus outbreak.
The move comes after emerged that several companies rescinded the offers they made to students from various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Managements (IIMs) amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The minister have also requested all the recruiters to not cancel any job offers that were made to graduating students during the campus placements this year.
Most of the IITs and IIMs around the country had reported 100 percent placements this year.
"This has been done to ensure that no student loses his/her job due to this health emergency in the country. These are the country's brightest minds and can help recruiters in times of crisis," he tweeted.
Last week, the minister had directed all the directors of 23 IITs around the country to make sure the campus placements are not affected due to the current situation.
Earlier, the All IITs' Placement Committee (AIPC) had also reached out to all the companies that visited for campus recruitment, requesting them not to rescind placement offers made for the academic year 2019-20.
Professor V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, had earlier said: "the placement process works very differently in IITs as compared to other similar top institutions abroad. Once a student is offered a placement, as per the IIT Delhi policy, the student is not allowed to appear for other placements. Hence, they do not even apply to other companies. As a result, if a job or an internship offer is withdrawn at this stage, the student, having given up her/his right to apply for other similar jobs, will end up not having any job right now."
"These are difficult times. A few months of delay may be fine. Please do not complicate the lives of these brightest children in an already complex environment. If at all, they are capable of getting you out of recession faster than you can imagine," he added.
