Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C) officially launched the ‘Lalit Mohanka & Madan Mohanka Centre for Excellence in Entrepreneurship & Innovation’. This inauguration was part of the two-day conclave titled ‘India 2047: Building the Future with Entrepreneurship,’ held at the Joka campus.
Funding and Mission
The centre, established with a substantial contribution from industrialist Madan Mohanka, aims to cultivate entrepreneurial ecosystems that promote sustainable economic growth and job creation. Mohanka has initially endowed the centre with INR 1 crore. “The mission of the centre is to create an environment that supports entrepreneurial ventures and drives economic progress,” Mohanka stated.
National Conference Highlights
The national conference gathered a diverse assembly of visionaries, innovators, leaders, and IIM-C alumni to discuss the future of entrepreneurship in India and beyond. Keynote speaker Patanjali G Keswani, Chairman and Managing Director of Lemon Tree Hotels, addressed the attendees virtually. Keswani reflected on his career trajectory, from his role in Tata Administrative Services to his rise as senior vice-president at the Taj Group of Hotels, and his subsequent entrepreneurial success with Lemon Tree Hotels.
Future Focus and Discussion Topics
IIM-C Director-in-Charge Saibal Chattopadhyay emphasized that the conclave would focus on how traditional sectors such as manufacturing, services, and e-commerce, as well as emerging fields like HealthTech, EdTech, AgriTech, FinTech, and AI, can harness advancements to propel business, policy, and practice forward. The event will help outline the strategic direction for the new centre’s work.
