This partnership will empower IIM-N and its affiliates to create high-quality case studies, which will address real-world business challenges and provide valuable learning experiences to management students across India.
Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM-N) has announced a strategic collaboration with Ivey Publishing, the world’s second-largest producer of management case studies, to enhance the writing and research skills of educators and students. This partnership will empower IIM-N and its affiliates to create high-quality case studies, which will address real-world business challenges and provide valuable learning experiences to management students across India.
Speaking at a press conference, IIM-N Director Bhimaraya Metri explained that this collaboration will play a key role in supporting the preparation of case studies that reflect the needs of businesses in the Mihan region and beyond. These case studies, once published through the IIM-N Case Centre, will feature the institute's logo, thereby offering global recognition to IIM-N’s researchers and contributing to the growth of its academic standing.
Case Study Initiative to Benefit Indian B-Schools
One of the most significant outcomes of this collaboration is the opportunity it provides to IIM-N’s partner institutions. The institute will mentor other management schools in India, assisting them in developing their own case studies. According to Metri, premium case studies from Ivey Publishing will be available to these institutions at a subsidized rate, thus making high-quality academic resources accessible to a wider range of students and educators.
IIM-N becomes the third IIM to establish a case centre, following IIM-Bengaluru and IIM-Ahmedabad, and is setting a precedent for other institutions across India to follow suit. This initiative is aimed at enriching the case study methodology, which is regarded as one of the most effective teaching tools in business education.
IIM-N Case Centre to Support National Business Schools
As part of this initiative, IIM-Nagpur plans to collaborate with business schools across India, offering them a platform to develop and publish their own case studies. The institute is set to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with tier-II B-schools, providing support for case writing and teaching. This will enable these institutions to publish original cases without the need for external payments, reducing the financial burden on institutions that may struggle with the high costs of procuring case studies from international sources.
Metri emphasized that this initiative will significantly benefit over 3,500 business schools and university management departments in India, many of which find it challenging to afford the costs of accessing case studies from prestigious institutions like Harvard Business School. As Metri pointed out, top business schools in India collectively spend Rs 200 crore annually on purchasing case studies, which limits access for smaller institutions.
Fostering Practical Learning Through Local Case Studies
By leveraging Ivey Publishing’s established reputation, IIM-N aims to enhance the quality and relevance of the case studies it produces. Students will benefit from being able to analyze cases based on local businesses, creating a unique learning experience. The institute envisions engaging CEOs from neighboring companies to visit and elaborate on specific cases, fostering active learning and practical insights.
Metri highlighted that this approach will offer students a direct connection with local business challenges, helping them bridge the gap between theory and implementation. The case study methodology, he said, remains one of the most effective ways for students to learn, as it allows them to immerse themselves in real-world scenarios and develop critical thinking skills.
The collaboration between IIM-Nagpur and Ivey Publishing marks a significant milestone in the Indian management education landscape. By offering subsidized access to high-quality case studies, providing mentorship for case writing, and promoting local business challenges as teaching tools, IIM-N is working to democratize access to valuable resources for business schools across the country. This initiative will not only enhance the learning experience for students but also help develop a new generation of business leaders equipped with the skills needed to navigate the complexities of modern business environments.
As IIM-N continues to expand its network and foster partnerships with business schools across India, it is poised to become a key player in transforming the way business education is delivered in the country.
