Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the Centre has encouraged IITs and IIMs to diversify their focus beyond their specialized domains and embrace a multidisciplinary approach towards education. Get details here
The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed that the Centre has advised Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) to become multi-disciplinary to explore beyond their traditional fields of expertise. The priority has to be given to imparting of multidisciplinary education through National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. IITs and IIMs are also poised to align themselves with this direction, he said, while speaking at the inauguration of Odisha Research Centre.
At the event, Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chhattisgarh counterpart Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan collectively inaugurated the centre.
Odisha Research Centre
The centre will conduct research on tradition, art, culture, archaeology and literature, sociology of Odisha, political process and political culture, agriculture, commerce, business and industry, development trends of science and technology and healthcare, contemporary Odisha and future technology. Additionally, it will focus on areas like smart cities, climate change, environmental conservation, sustainable development, semiconductors, rare earth elements, and advanced minerals.
By 2036, during Odisha's centenary celebration of its formation, and in 2047, marking India's centenary of independence, the ORC plans to craft a developmental roadmap for Odisha and the advancement of the Odia language.
The centre has been established in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Indian Knowledge Systems Division, Ministry of Education, IIM Sambalpur, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Bhubaneswar. The objective of the centre is to develop innovative epistemological frameworks to explore varied and nuanced dimensions of Odisha’s history, culture, economy and society.
