Medical colleges in Assam increased under BJP regime: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

While visiting Biswanath district, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the healthcare sector in the state has got a powerful boost under the BJP regime.

"Improving healthcare infrastructure has always been a primary focus area of the government," he said, as reported by Can India.

Comparing the situation from a few years back, he said, “From just three medical colleges earlier, the state can now boast of nine medical colleges."

With the medical colleges at Tezpur and Lakhimpur already functional and the ones at Biswanath and Dhemaji under construction, all the four districts on the north bank of the Brahmaputra will have a medical college each, he added.

The Chief Minister also said the upcoming medical college in Biswanath district should become functional by 2026.

He inaugurated the newly-constructed Gohpur Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital, located in Gohpur town in Biswanath district. The state-of-the-art hospital, with a total build-up area of 5,029 square meters, has been built at an approximate cost of INR 18 crore.

He also inaugurated INR 10 crore Ghahigaon Sports Project at Gohpur. Its foundation was laid on March 10, 2022. Sarma announced INR 15 crore for infra development to take up economic activities in order to make the stadium self-reliant.

He digitally laid foundation stones for the parade ground of the Gohpur Sub-Divisional Office and a pucca embankment from Aliguri Subansiri to Bortamuli.

He also tweeted about Atal Amrit Abhiyan, "While ensuring access to quality healthcare to people from lesser privileged economic backgrounds, Atal Amrit Abhiyan has also prevented many households from descending into economic hardships."
