Medical education fee in Karnataka to be regulated soon, says minister
Karnataka Health and Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar has announced that the medical education fee in the state will be regulated shortly.
Karnataka government has formed a new fee regulation committee to analyse private medical colleges in the state, categorise them and decide on the fee that can be collected, informed the Health and Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar. He also added that the medical education fee in the state will be regulated soon.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had announced the establishment of this committee during the budget session.
“The state government will take all possible measures to provide opportunities for poor children to enter medical colleges. The committee will recommend the fees particularly for private medical colleges,” Sudhakar said, as reported by Indian Express.
Karnataka private medical colleges to be divided into groups
The committee will divide the private medical colleges of the state into A, B, C and D categories based on many factors including NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) assessment, the staff, infrastructure, equipment, clinical exposure etc.
The fees would then be fixed based on the recommendations made by the committee, said Dr K Sudhakar.
The sources have also revealed that the state government already has a fee regulatory committee which was appointed by the higher education department, the new committee will look only into fees for medical courses.
He had recently said that the government will help the 700 Ukraine returned medical students in continuing their studies in 60 medical colleges of the state without charging any fees. However, he had clarified that the students will not be officially absorbed into the colleges.
