124 medical colleges in India got NMC recognition in last three years, says Health Minister
MoS Health Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar said in Parliament that as many as 124 medical colleges in the country got NMC recognition in the last three years.
As per the data shared by MoS Health Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar in Parliament during question hour, a total of 124 medical colleges in India got recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) in the last three years. Out of this, 66 medical colleges have been recognised this year, in 2021, 26 in the year 2020 and 32 medical colleges got recognised in 2019 by the Medical Council of India (MCI), now known as NMC.
She presented the data in Parliament while replying to the question which asked the Health Ministry to give data on the number of medical institutes that got recognised by NMC across India during the last three years.
The maximum number of medical colleges got recognition in Uttar Pradesh, this year 11 institutes got recognised, last year 6 medical colleges and in 2019, 7 colleges got NMC recognition.
Telangana and Karnataka are at the second position as far as the number of colleges got recognised are concerned. There 6 medical colleges got NMC recognition this year to date, and last year, 3 colleges got recognition and in 2019 only one medical college was recognised.
Other colleges are from different states like 5 institutes each from Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra and 4 medical institutes each from Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat have been recognised this year as of now.
3 medical institutes from Kerala and Haryana, 2 from Madhya Pradesh have been recognised to date this year and 1 medical college each from Himachal Pradesh, states/UT of Delhi, Punjab, Odisha, and Uttrakhand. No colleges from Bihar, Assam and Andaman & Nicobar Islands got NMC recognition in the last three years.
