Union parliamentary affairs minister Prahlad Joshi has claimed that nearly 90% of the Indians who study medicine outside India fail to clear the qualifying exams in the country.

The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has highlighted that many Indian students are opting for studying medicines in Ukraine and other such countries. Also, the Indian students who enrolled in China and Ukraine medical colleges recently are finding their future uncertain due to Covid-19 pandemic induced challenges and now the Russia-Ukraine war. The latest is, Union parliamentary affairs minister Prahlad Joshi has said that "90% of Indians who study medicine abroad fail to clear qualifying exams in India."

As per the TOI report, he said, "This is not the right time to debate why students are moving out to study medicine."

Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) is the mandatory examination that such students need to pass to practice medicine in India. 

He also said that India has deployed additional staff at its embassy to ensure the safe return of the Indian students from Ukraine. However, he admitted that the students are facing trouble and are unable to get essentials like food and water, particularly in Kharkiv and Kyiv.

"We are in touch with the Ukraine government and Russia daily basis, and we will soon bring all students back home," he said.

66 Indian students stranded in Mykolaiv urge immediate help from Indian Embassy

As per the reports emerging, nearly 66 Indian students stranded at a hostel of Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University in the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv have urged the immediate help of the Indian Embassy amid the worsening situation in the city with the constant sound of bomb blasts around them, as reported by Indian Express.
