972 Indian medical aspirants went to study abroad without qualifying NEET-UG Exam, says NMC

NMC has released the names of these 972 Indian medical aspirants who went to study medicine abroad without obtaining the Eligibility Certificate in India.

National Medical Commission has reiterated that no Indian medical aspirant can take admission to medical undergraduate courses abroad without qualifying for the NEET UG examination which is deemed to be treated as an Eligibility Certificate for Indian/OCI citizens intending to take admission in MBBS or equivalent Medical Course in any Foreign Medical Institution.

The Commission has issued the names of a total of 972 students who have taken admission to the foreign medical colleges without obtaining the mandatory Eligibility Certificate. The Commission has given 10 days time to these applicants to submit their applications in the eligibility portal of NMC. 

"In case, the applicants whose name is mentioned in the list do not fulfil the deficiency or do not submit the applications within 10 days from the date of publication of this notice the applications will be summarily rejected," said NMC.

"We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Timely rectification of the deficiencies will expedite the processing of the eligibility certificates and help the applicants move forward with their respective endeavors," added NMC.

The Commission said that as per section 13(4B) Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 - “(4B) A person who is a citizen of India shall not, after such date as may be specified by the Central Government under sub-section (3), be eligible to get admission to obtain medical qualification granted by any medical institution in any foreign country without obtaining an eligibility certificate issued to him by the Council and in case any such person obtains such qualification without obtaining such eligibility certificate, he shall not be eligible to appear in the screening test referred to in sub-section (4A): Provided that an Indian citizen who has acquired the medical qualification from foreign medical institution or has obtained admission in foreign medical institution before the commencement of the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Act, 2001 shall not be required to obtain eligibility certificate under this sub-section but, if he is qualified for admission to any medical course for recognized medical qualification in any medical institution in India, he shall be required to qualify only the screening test prescribed.”
